HIBERTEX — Winter Protection for Trees, Shrubs and Lawns

Tests have shown that the use of the Hibertex protective cover creates a microclimate that attenuates sudden temperature changes and keeps shrubs from drying out. The green-colored Hibertex harmonizes with the surrounding landscape.

Plant protection

Hibertex also serves as an insulator, protecting non-hardy plants such as rose bushes, rhododendrons and some softwood trees as wells as bulbs or perennials that can freeze easily in the ground because of a lack of snow cover or temperature extremes.

Made to be weather resistant

Hibertex protects shrubs and hedges from snow thrown by snow removal equipment as well as from salt, salty drizzle and road deicers. Distinguished by a glossy finish, this textile will withstand the weight of snow, ice and rain, and keep branches from breaking.

Designed to protect lawns

Used to protect lawns in winter, Hibertex makes it easier to clean up sand and debris in the spring. With its glossy finish, Hibertex holds all abrasives while remaining easy to clean. Allowing air and water to circulate freely, its unique design helps lawns turn green sooner in the spring while keeping yellow patches to a minimum.

Installation

The material is rolled out and cut to the desired length using a pair of scissors. Holes are punched at three places along the width, at each end of the material, with ropes passed through each of the perforations. The Hibertex is wrapped around the shrub, and the ropes are tied together. When installing on a snow fence or posts, the textile is secured using a stapler.

To protect a lawn, the textile is unrolled directly over the grass and folded edges are anchored with nails measuring 8-inch (20 cm) or more and protective rings to keep from perforating the fabric.

Installation and removal period

Before nighttime temperatures dip to –15º C or under, that is, prior to the first snowfalls from mid-October to late-November, depending on the region, textile covers are installed to protect shrubs and/or lawns,, which have not been fully acclimatized to winter, from premature drying or to keep buds from bursting.

The textile should be removed once temperatures no longer dip to –15ºC or under at night, i.e., during spring thaw, from early March to mid-April, depending on the region, preferably in rainy or cloudy weather to avoid sun damage.
